We’re thrilled to announce that in 2019, we’ll be taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon, Sunday 28th April on behalf of a charity that is close to our hearts, Age UK Sheffield.
The local branch of Age UK; a charity dedicated to its vision of making the UK a great place to grow older. In 2016/17, Age UK provided information and advice to approximately 8 million people, online and by phone. From developing the Person-Centred Integrated Care programme that supports older people with multiple long-term conditions; to helping older people with mild to moderate depression; to organising digital skills workshops. Age UK changes lives for the better.
Age UK Sheffield support 4000 people per year and make a difference to every single one. Whether helping to: buy household appliances, set-up payments or benefits, register with a local GP, find accommodation, or simply get out and about. The organisation is at the heart of the local community, and an invaluable resource.
Operating special services for the most vulnerable, older people are able to request a personal assistant to help around the house, chat to, or go shopping with. Likewise, for older people with dementia, Age UK Sheffield runs a Wellbeing Centre, where visitors can take part in various activities, laugh, and make new friends.
For us to have the opportunity to raise funds for and represent such an amazing charity is a privilege. Without the services provided by Age UK Sheffield many of the city’s older residents would not be able to enjoy a good quality of life. It is incredibly important that Age UK Sheffield can keep improving the lives of so many.
